10/16/2007: Long Time!
All most a year and still nothing? That's right. Well maybe not nothing. Spike has been sick for 2 months and has been treated with radiation. Everything looks like it will be OK but he will still be down for another month or two.
Mean while Dante has left the band because of our lack of playing and now has a real good cover band in which they play out regularly so he can get his rocks off. We wish him nothing but the best.
Most of the drum tracks where finished before Spike got sick so Mark and Mark have been getting the big drum sound that Mark has dreamed of. They also started recording the intro’s for each song which is a surprise but it will defiantly make you FEEL GOOD!!

11/24/2006: Yes We are Still Kicking!
First want to apologize for the long delay in updating the website.
A few things like a knee operation, writing new material and trying regroup after a minor set back can add months to your space not weeks.
Well are back at it and have 15 songs that we are working on and have started recording.

The CD is titled Shut Up & Drive and we will have it out in February. We are also working on getting our Video’s up on U Tube and have some shows that we are working on.
The last month we have kicked it back in gear and got our heads out of our boats (Nemo touched the butt) and promise never to talk about things that we have no idea about. We look forward to a new year with some music that Bobby and Sissy can dance.
Remember that life is too short so go long!!!
06/14/2006: On to the Next Round!!
Once again the boys have advance to another round of a Rocking Idols Contest at Murphy's Law at the Hard Rock Casino. On Sunday June 11th they ripped thru 45 minutes with a take no prisoners’ attitude and the results showed. No they go on to play at the Revolution (formally the Edge) Downtown Ft. Lauderdale Sunday June 25th on the main stage at 6:00pm with about 20 other bands.(12 inside and 10 outside)
$15 cover gets you in to see over 20 bands, a FREE hippies T-Shirt, a FREE hippies CD and one FREE Drink ticket on the boys!!
$15,000 is up for grabs so the stakes are high for everyone else except the guys. They just are going to do what they always do, ROCK!! So come out and check out all the local talent that’s developing in South Florida. See show dates for more details!

05/15/2006: Originals, Covers, and 3 Shows Oh My!!!
With Mark Herndon’s connection we have been asked to play 2 shows for Majic’s Maroone Movie Night Saturday May 27th and June 24th Downtown Ft. Lauderdale at Heizinger Park. We will go on 6:00pm and play for about 45 minutes. Majic wants us to play songs from there play list plus they will let us play 3 to 4 originals.
The kicker is that will get radio spots the week before each gig so that is really cool and some great PR for the band. It’s an outdoor show so bring the family and be prepared to Twist & Shout, Bang a Gong, and rock to some hippies tunes!!!
Sunday June 11th we will take the stage at 6:00pm at Murphy’s Law for a 45 minute set of originals featuring songs from One Boy’s Dream and some new stuff. It is contest called Rocking Idol and it runs from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm. It is an all age’s show with a cover of $10 so come early and stay late to see all the local bands. Should be a lot of fun!!!
04/09/2006: Shut Up & Drive, it's almost ready!!
The boys are almost ready to enter the studio to follow up last years "One Boy's Dream". Tentative title for hippies 7th recording project is "Shut Up & Drive". It will be recorded once again my Bob Laus who recorded "One's Boys Dream" in his new studio with his famed 2 inch tape, yeah that's right tape!!

PS We had someone spamming the guestbook for about a month and want to thank them for their efforts. It's nice to know that someone cares that much. We found out where it was coming from (not surprising we might add and it was not Bob Duperry for ever keeps telling him that) and have put an end to it. Again thanks for your efforts and hope you can find a better use of your time.
01/25/2006: That's Kool!!
A couple of months ago I, Spike, sent a letter the LiveStrong Foundation about how Lance's battle with cancer has inspired me to over come several injuries in which I have had 19 surgeries to date to fix, to push and not give up. It basically said that you don't have to battle cancer to inspired by Lance and how my son and I bonded over the last 2 years watching him race. In fact Jake has a framed picture of Lance in his play room, he picked it out.
The song LiveStrong off the One Boy's Dream CD was inspired by Lance's story which I also included in the package. Here is the response which I thought was kool!!

01/23/2006: We Really did WIN!!
Late Friday we got a call from Migual from Budweiser informing us that we did win the King of Local Band's Contest. He went on to apologize for taken so long to inform us and hoped nothing but the best for the band.
I know what about the contract!! Well Migual said they would love to offer us a contract but Budweiser has cancelled it's Music program. They have had major cut backs due to low sales (must be the new ads) and of course the music program was the 1st to go. Well another feather in the hippies hat but somewhat disappointing at the same time.
We are in full blown preproduction and ahead of schedule with about 8 songs finsihed. Lining up some dates for some live gigs so we will keep you posted. Thanks again for all the support!!
12/28/2005: A New Update, a New Hippie, another Fake, and TV!!
1st would like to thank all the hippies fans for their support last year and wish you nothing but the best for 2006!!
Looks like the 93.1 King of the Local Bands fell apart. After several calls to the radio station and Sofa Kings no one can give anybody an answer. Too bad cause it sounded like Sofa Kings was really going to step up and bring local music out west. We shall wait and see. So for now we are declaring us as the winners!!
Mark (Henry) Herndon can be seen on channel 4 news from 5 to 7 and from 7 to 9 on local channel 33. That is right seen, he is the new traffic reporter and I might add dresses up quite nice. Very metrosexual! You can also hear him on Majic 102.7 FM form time to time as he is working there part time. Nice!!!
The band has taken a break due to birth of Zoey Rain, Spike's little girl Nov. 30th. With 6 songs in the bag they will finsih up preproduction starting after the 1st of the year and then hit the studio in late January or early Febuary. A CD release show/party is already in the works. If not Elvis then Tom Jones might open for us, never know. Also plannig more shows durring the year not only in South Florida but the west coast and central Florida.

10/07/2005: Still No Word on the Winner!!
Mums the words so far. Thanks for all the emails on who won but we still don't know. 93.1 and SOfa Kings still do not know either. So we will wait but looks like we will make a landing at the West Palm Beach Moonfest Oct 29th. Will keep you posted.

08/24/2005: The Final 3
Big thanks to all that came out to see the old guys place in the Top 3 of 5 bands in the Budweiser 93.1 King of the Local Band Contest.
Please don't shed a tear because the Top 3 Bands get their Press Package sent to Budweiser and the Big Cheese's are going to pick the final winner!!
Ha!! So we made it to the next round again!! Each band had only 10 minutes to show their goods and each band kicked ass. It was a true pleasure to play with all of them last night. Everybody was kool and supported each other which is a nice change!!
So we will get togther our press package and get it to 93 Rock and leave it in the hands of the Rock Gods.

07/27/2005: On the the Finals!!
We won last night so a BIG BIG THANKS to everybody that came out to support us at Sofa Kings!! The finals are Tuesday Aug 23rd at 8:00pm with the 5 other winners. So mark it down and we would love to see you again!!!
Another big thanks to the great bands that we played with. Everybody was real kool and we all supported each other. Very nice to see!!!

If you have not been to Sofa Kings you got to check it out. The beer is cold and the women are too HOT!! It's great to to see that Rock N Roll will be back out west. The manager of Sofa Kings is committed to making it happen. After the contest he is going to have Local Bands ever Friday and Saturday night.

07/22/2005: Hippies get picked again!
Hippies have been picked to take part in the 93 Rock contest to find the best orignal local bands in south florida.
They will perfrom a 20 minute set this Tuesday 7/26/05 at 8:00pm with 3 other local bands at Sofa Kings located at 595/Pine Island (use to be Uncle Funny's).
The contest will be judged on crowd response plus 3 judges so come out, it won't be a late night and the boys need your support.
Once we get the age details and the cover info we will get it posted!!

07/18/2005: 2nd not so bad!
Yesterday Sunday 7/17/2005 Spike finsihed 2nd in his divison (Male 0-39, Jr. Clydesdale 185-199)at Trade Winds Park part of the South Florida Triathlon Series. Just 5 seconds behind the winner.
So far this year Spike has competed in 3 sprint races and finished the 1/2 Iron Man at Disney this May. He hopes to compete in 5 more this season included the Miami Man 1/2 Iron Man at the Metro Zoo this Nov.
Will get some pictures up to show you him suffering!
07/15/2005: Hippies Update!
Sorry for the delay but things have been a little crazy the past few months. Got some photos from the show, finally!! Even one of the show favorite, Joe T, Elvis!!
Got 10 songs written and will be entering the sutdio in August. Hope to have the CD out before October. Spike and his wife are expecting thier second child so got to get things done.
Songs are taken a nice direction and like always seem to beworking out quite nice.

Lining up some gigs with another one planned at The Cinema Paradiso in the works. This time we might have a Tom Jones impersonator open for us, you never know, could be something to be remembered for!!
05/03/2005: It's Been to Long!!
Sorry for the delay but we hope to have pictures from the CD release show up soon. We packed the Theater with over 300 people and we want to thank everyone for coming out and making it a special night. Thanks so much to Ken Olive (Madsic) for playing his keyboard the way we all know he can. Spike, Rain, and Jakob thank you so much.
Also want to give a big thanks to Mark Herndon for putting up with very a unprofessional sound company. With out Mark it would have never sounded so good. Oh yeah we kicked some major ass as well.
The response for the Old Wolve & Rain materail was overhelming. Sorry for letting my bad experiance with a few bad apples not share some those songs with you for so long. It won't happen again!! I ,Spike, learn a lot about myself, family and friends that night, thank you so much!!!!
We are currnetly written new material with new guitarest Dante (Nigel) cause I still can't find that cord. It's coming along very well and the new sound is grooving.
Lining up some shows as we speak and will do a better job of keeing the site up to date!!!!
12/29/2004: Elvis is in The Building
That's right Elvis will open for hippies & pilots for their CD release show Jan 15th!!
Elvis (Joe T) will hit the stage at 8:30 for a rocking 40 minute set. Then will join the band after their set to lend his vocals to some covers!!
Joe T is one a the worlds top Elvis Impersonator's. He has placed in the Top 5 in his catagory at last years World Competition!! So it's going to be a blast, baby!! Thank you, Thank you very much!!

11/17/2004: CD Release Party Date Set
hippies & pilots have booked The Cinema Paradiso* downtown Ft. Lauderdale Saturday Jan. 15th at 9:00 pm for their CD Release Show.
The Cinema Paradiso is formely The Carol Vinnette Theater. For those who have followed the band will remeber that is where the band performed 2 sold out shows of the complete performance of Wolve & Rain!! Yeah 1995!!
For that reason the boys will dust off some old songs that have not been played live in a long long long time. We will keep posting details as they finalize the opening band and acts. There will also be a some surprises and guest appreances!!!
10/08/2004: hippies to Rock the Rocky Horror!!
Saturday Oct 30th hippies & pilots will open for the Rocky Horror Performance at Flippers 10 in Holloywood, FL.
hippies will take the stage at 11:00pm for about an hour set. The questions remains will they be in custume or not.
It should be a blast and make plans to stay because Mark Herndon is going to lead us all in the crowd as for his a former Rocky Horror cast member.

09/05/2004: In the Studio
hippies are back at it!!
After some major set backs like Spikes 2 month illness and Mark Elliott's ongoing bout with kidney stones the boys seem ready to go!!
They have recorded 10 new songs at the Legendary L7 Sutdio with Bob of the famed band Roster Head!! Still have not figured out his last name. Vocals were ready to be finsihed but Hurricane Frances postpone that for a couple of weeks.
The tenative title for the new CD is "The Stand" and hope to be releashed by the middle of Oct with a Big CD's release party in the works!!

What's next you ask? Our song "One Boy's Dream" will get put on the Hard Rock Cafe Website with the other 19 finalist. The top 5 bands that get the most votes over the next 4 months will have Sammy Hagger and his Red Rocker Panel pick the winner. That band gets to open for Sammy at his Cabo Wabo in St. Lucas MEXICO!!
We will also open for some National Acts at the New Hard Rock Casino and play some showcase gigs at the Hard Rock Cafes in Orlando, Sunrise, and Miami!!
Big 106 will also have us open up for some national acts billed as the Miami Hard Rock Cafe Cabo Wabo Winner!!!!

04/23/2004: Let's Get It On!!!!
It's Offical!! The Cabo Wabo Finals are set!!
Wednesday May 5th at 9:00pm we will take the stage in the finals. 2 other bands will play after us.
We are going to play are balls off and have a great time.
There are going to be 2 hippy busses. Both leaving at 7:30pm with one returning at 10:30 - 11 and the other after all the bands play!! So if you missed it last time don't miss it this time. Just email us if your ready to fly your mind!!

04/09/2004: We Won!!
Thanks to all our family, friends, and FREAKS that came out and helped us win the 1st round of the Cabo Wabo Battle of the Bands!!
The finals will be Wednesday May 5th back at the Hard Rock Cafe in Miami!! Once we get the time we will let you know!
The Hippy Bus was such a succes we will do it again!

03/30/2004: The Hippy Bus
We are renting a 50 passanger bus for all our friends, family, and freaks that don't to fight the traffic down to Miami.

03/24/2004: Hippies to Rock the Hard Rock Cafe in Miami
Over 500 CD's were sent in for the "Shot at the Cabo Wabo" contest presneted by Sammy Hagger, Nokia Phones, and The Hard Rock Cafe. Only 12 bands were picked and yes we made it!!
How it Works:
Then the fun begins! Every Thursday in April, your participating local Hard Rock Cafe will be hosting a live band-to-band standoff. Bring your friends, family and fans to cheer you on! Audiences will determine the night's winners by voting via Nokia / Cingular phones. Don't worry if you don't have a Nokia / Cingular phone, beautiful Cabo Wabo girls will be on hand to lend you theirs! (Just phones — NOT phone numbers!!!)

12/29/2003: New Flight
We thought we would have a new CD out before XMAS, but as life teaches us, things change.
Now we welcome Mark Herndon into the hippies & pilots clan. Like always it's not a replacement but just a new path to take for the music to journey on. Hopefully for a long time. Mark, Mark, ( I know MarkEMark )and I have written some new stuff and have actually recorded some demos and hope to have a new CD out in Feb. We also are putting together some shows for later in Jan.
So thanks for your patince and remember to keep smiling!!!
