Hippies & Pilots Bio: Dante

Name(s): Dante "Dee Anthony" DePanicis
Nick Name: Nigel
Born: Glenn Ridge, NJ
Height: Vertically - 5' 9", Horizontally - (same)
Plays: All sorts of Fender Strats
Sings:
Hometown: Plantation, FL (grew up down the street from Skip)
Instruments: Guitar, Keyboard, Tenor Sax
Before H-n-P: As a youngun', my first instrument was trumpet (noisy, dad not happy) At age 12, I started sneeking my sister's very expensive acoustic guitar outside to practice (sister not happy). Played a few acoustic gigs in Gainesville, FL until I saw Tom Petty playing "Refugee" at Live Aid I. Immediately switched to electric guitar, formed clichéd cover band Kaylen's Dream that played the fraternity scene at U of FL. Came home, joined Skip's Band and had a blast for awhile. Next, I did the So. Florida bar band thing in Steady Habit, Distant Cry, CC Jobodo. For a long time didn't play (Nigel not happy). But, thank G-d, on Dec.31, 2004 Skip "asked me" to join Hipppies -n- Pilots!
Influences: Hendrix, Allen Collens, Neil Schon, S. R. Vaughn, T. Shaw
Claim to Fame: Other than four beautiful kids ? I was interviewed on CNN once and also played a huge role in getting Howard Schnellenberger to develop and start coaching football at FAU in 1998.
What I want to be when I grow up: Employed and liquid
Other than the band: Seriously, a great father (kids are all that matter)
First gig: NCAA Track Championship party, Mar '86
Worst gig: Ha ! Lets just say it doesn't take long for a college track team to leave the room when your band sucks.
Best gig: "The Rat" at the Student Union, Sept '86
Dream gig: Going on tour with Green Day
Words to live by: There is no substitute for experience
What to be remembered for: A transparent personality, honesty, and fairness
